Abstract

Punjab Agricultural University is regularly organizing Farmers ’fairs (Kisan Mela) at regional research station, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) to disseminate latest scientific technologies to the farmers. The present study was conducted on 120 farmers at these fairs to know their perceptions regarding the utility farmers ’fairs. Data were collected through personal interview schedule from these respondents. The main purpose of farmers to visit these fairs was to get information about new practices (84.17%) and to buy agriculture/horticulture/crop/fodder seeds (71.67%) from such events. Only thirty five percent farmers had interaction with experts for solution of their queries. Most of the farmers (65%) were of the opinion that they were not getting proper information regarding livestock management in these fairs. Fifty seven percent farmers gave feedback that these fairs must be updated each year for more effectiveness. It is concluded that farmers ’fairs are playing an effective role in information dissemination but must be updated each year to catch more attention of the farmers.
