Small and marginal holdings constitute 80 per cent of the total holdings in India. Small farmers face several problems like absence of marketing network, lack of value addition technology, non-availability of quality inputs, lack of timely credit. However, small scale agriculture can be made economically viable through diversification and agri-entrepreneurship. Among the many avenues open to farmers, beekeeping is an important and lucrative agri-enterprise. In Tamil Nadu conducive agro-climatic conditions, and involvement of State Agricultural University, Non Governmental Organizations and developmental agencies in promoting beekeeping. A study was conducted in Kanniyakumari district of the state to find out the constraints faced by the beekeepers in adopting new technologies.
