Abstract

The present study was conducted to assess the economics of rabbit farming in malnad and semi-malnad regions of Karnataka. Five rabbit farming units of varied size were selected using snowball sampling method. Budgeting technique was used to workout economics of rabbit farming. The study indicated that capital investment of 15, 47, 036 is required to start rabbit farming with 50 units (350does ’and 150 bucks). The economics indicated that cost incurred per kg of live weight of rabbit came to 147.78 and farmers could get net returns of 102.22/kg. The positive and substantial NPW ( 48, 35, 849), BCR more than unity (1.97) and IRR more than interest rate on long term loan (320%) revealed its economic viability. Though, rabbit farming is economically efficient and viable but it is fraught with organized marketing.
