Adoption of Recommended Production Technology by Chilli Growers in Tripura

Abstract

Chilli is one of the most important commercial crops of India. It is widely grown almost throughout the whole country. India is the largest producer as well as the largestconsumer of Chilli at global level. Chilli is a potential crop in the state of Tripura. Therefore the present study was undertaken in the year 2015–2016 under two selected districts of Tripura viz., South Tripura and Khowai with the basic objective to examine the adoption status of the recommended package of practices of chilli cultivation. One RD block from each of the selected districts and one village from each of the selected RD block was selected purposively for the study. A total of 144 respondents were selected randomly for the study. It was evident from the study that 58.33 per cent of the respondents belonged to middle age, 47.95 per cent of them had education upto secondary school, 89.58 per cent of the respondents had nuclear type of family, 75.00 per cent of them had medium family size, 45.83 per cent of them were marginal farmers, 77.08 per cent of them had low level of social participation, 68.75 per cent of the respondents had annual income from chilli in the range of Rs. 3000-70000, 93.75 per cent of them had low level of extension contact, 70.83 per cent respondents utilized medium level of information sources and 58.33 per cent of them had favourable attitude towards recommended chilli cultivation practices. It was also revealed thatmajority of the green chilli growers (70.83%) fully adopted the recommended harvesting time, 87.50 per cent of them partially adopted the recommended planting time while 95.83 per cent of them didn't adopt the recommended varieties of green chilli.
