Abstract

Soil is the basic component of agriculture which contains nutrients and provides to plant for proper growth. Due to indiscriminate use of fertilizers and imbalance use of other practices the soil health has degraded in recent past. Considering these facts government of India has launched a flagship programme for providing information on available nutrient status for crop. An attempt was made to analyse awareness and constraints faced by farmers in utilising its information. The research areas were selected randomly and ex post facto design was used. For getting responses Liket type scale was used and Friedman test was used. The result showed that majority of farmers was aware about Soil Health Card use and its effectiveness. Major Constraints in utilising information were high time gap between soil samples taken and issuing cards, Difficulty in understanding all the information given in the soil health card and calculating fertilizer dose on the basis of nutrient status of soil. A proper training of farmers should be done for soil sample collection followed by analysing recommended dose of fertilizers.
