Extent of Adoption of Improved Package of Practices on Sugarcane Cultivation by the Farmers of East Champaran District of Bihar

Abstract

The research broadly aims at providing information on the extent of technology adoption behaviour of sugarcane growers in Bihar State of India. The study was conducted in 2016–2018 in the East Champaran District of Bihar State and other production packages have been introduced to farmers. The sample consisted of 120 farmers selected from Kotwa, Dipau, Rajapur and Barkurwa, in Kotwa Block of East Champaran District. The results indicated a high rate of awareness in the zone. The main sources of information were Agricultural Coordinator and the use of radio. The results showed that majority of sugarcane growers had medium level of extent of adoption like that in agronomical practice (49.16%). Among the technologies, extent of adoption in land preparation majority of respondents(50.50%) adopt in leveling, extent of adoption in most of the respondents(70.83%), extent of adoption in varieties, majority of respondents (86.66%) in adoption of sugarcane having a eye bud, majority of respondent(74.16%)adopt in extent of fertilizes apply as DAP, adoption, extent of adoption in irrigation management most of respondents (80.84%) adopt in irrigate at formative stage in sugarcane, extent of adoption in weed management most of respondents (60.00%) adopt in control of weed within 60–70 days in sugarcane, extent of adoption insect management most of respondents (64.16%) adopt in control of shoot borer in sugarcane, extent of disease management most of respondents (72.50%) adopt in control of rust disease in sugarcane apply Dithane M-45, extent of harvesting management most of respondents (86.66%) adopt in product of sugarcane for commercial purpose. The major reasons for non adoption of improved technologies were inadequate knowledge and non-availability of these technologies.
