Preferences of Pregnant Ladies for Maternity Clothes in Rural Areas of Punjab

Abstract

This study was conducted in Mansa and Ropar Districts of Punjab. Sixty pregnant women residing in villages were selected as respondents for this study. The data were collected on semi structured interview schedule developed for the purpose. Majority of the respondents were having their age up to 30 years. Nearly half of the respondents opined that maternity clothes are available in the local market. Only small percentage of the respondents was of view its non availability in the market. More than half of the respondents were less satisfied with material used for maternity garments. Regarding constructional detail of the garment fifty per cent respondents were found less satisfied with length of the garments. All the respondents preferred cotton fabric because of its special characteristics such as easy availability (78.33%) absorbent (76.67%) comfortable (71.67%) and cool (63.33%) in a sequential order.
