Relationship and extent of contribution of profile of turmeric growers towards the adoption of improved cultivation practices in Belagavi, Karnataka

Abstract

The present study was conducted during 2017-18 in Belagavi district of Karnataka. Atotal of 120 respondents were selected randomly which includes 60 respondents from Gokak and Raibag taluks where production, productivity and area under turmeric was found maximum. The data was collected through pretested structured interview schedule and analyzed using correlation and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that education, annual income, achievement motivation, economic motivation and scientific orientation were found to have significant relationship with extent of adoption of improved practices by turmeric growers at 5 per cent level of significance. The landholding, extension contact, extension participation, risk orientation, market orientation, farming experience and innovativeness were found significant relationship with the extent of adoption by turmeric growers at 1 per cent level of significance. Whereas other variables like age, social participation and deferred gratification were found non-significant. The R value of 0.8182 indicated that all the selected independent variables put together contributed about 81.82 per cent variation in the turmeric growers” adoption of improved practices which was explained by fifteen independent variables. It was also noticed that out of fifteen independent variables 6 variables are positive and significant at 5 per cent level, four variables are found positive and significant at 1 per cent level and five variables are positive but non-significant contribution at either 5 or 1 per cent.
