Availability, accessibility and attitude of farming families about use of information and communication technology

Abstract

Information and communication technologies (ICT) may be regarded as the combination of “Informatics technology” with other related technology, specifically communication technology. ICT can be utilized for providing accurate, timely, relevant information and services to the farmers, thereby facilitating an environment for more remunerative agriculture. The technology revolution encompasses new ways of capturing, processing, storing and displaying information and is capable of increasing productivity and competitiveness through information provision. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are playing a focal role in the development process of any country. In today's life Technology became a part of life and livelihood. In this digital era, India is using ICTs to promote their development programs as well as reaches to the poor to strengthen their lively hood. Considering these facts the study was conducted in Hisar district with objectives to study the availability, accessibility and attitude of respondents towards use of ICT. The findings revealed that television sets and mobile phones were available at every respondent's house followed by availability of internet (62.00 % male and 17.00 % of female respondents). Regarding accessibility of ICT, only 2.00 to 25.00 per cent of male respondents and 2.00 to 9.00 pe rcent of female respondents had partial accessibility of CD/DVD, computer and e-mail and internet. Further, 66.00 per cent male respondents had least favorable attitude and 56.00 per cent of female respondents had highly favorable attitude towards use of ICT.
