Relationship between socio-economic traits of rural women and their participation in agricultural activities

Abstract

Participation of women is not limited to agricultural activities only but they are contributing significantly towards livestock management. The study is an in depth analysis of participation of women in various agricultural activities. Therefore, the rural women play a significant role in agricultural activities such as seeding, transplanting, weeding, fertilizer application, plant protection, harvesting, processing, storage etc. Several of these operations are carried out by women only. The present study was conducted in Jaipur region of Rajasthan. Out of five districts in Jaipur region, Jaipur district was selected. From selected district, two panchayat samities (Dudu and Jalsu) were selected randomly by using simple random sampling. From the selected panchayat samities five villages from each panchayat samiti were selected by using simple random sampling. Similarly, from 10 selected villages 120 respondents were selected by proportionate random sampling technique. The data collected by using personal interview method. The relationship between participation of rural women in agricultural activities and the selected independent variables viz. their age, education, marital status, farming experience, land holding, annual income and extension participation, were measured by computing “Coefficient of correlation (r)”. It found that the farm women's marital status, farming experience, annual income, land holding and extension participation were positively and significantly associated with the participation in agricultural activities of the farm women and the farm women's age was found to have a positive and non-significant relationship with their participation in agricultural activities
