Abstract

The villages are the backbone of our country. As far as India is concerned, it is populated highly with rural mass that undertakes the agriculture and its allied activities at larger level. To improve the productivity of Indian agriculture and to free the cultivators from the vicious circle of poverty, a breakthrough has to be achieved by supplying adequate amount of investible credit to the cultivators in the country. The present paper attempted to study the socio-economic profile of Kashi Gomti Samyukth Gramin (KGSG) Bank beneficiaries in the Varanasi District of Uttar Pradesh. The study was conducted in Umraha and Jalhupur branches of KGSG Bank, where a total of 200 samples has been considered for the study. The results showed that majority of the respondents are in middle age group, males attaining Intermediate as an educational qualification. Majority of respondents belonged to OBC and have joint family system having more than 5 members. They were having less than 1 ha of land and dependent upon agriculture for their livelihood with an annual income of 49, 000 to 1, 92, 000 and having an working experience of 5 to 15 years. Conducting awareness programmes on different procedures and the new schemes will help the beneficiaries in making a faster move in the banks, which lessens the burden even on the bank officials.
