Mustard is one of the most important oilseeds crop in Punjab, which plays a major role in crop diversification. There exists a huge yield gap between yield at farmers ’field and potential yield of crop, thus there is need to identify the reasons behind the gap. In order to identify the problem, 50 frontline demonstrationin 20 ha area were conducted at farmers ’field in different blocks of Patiala district comparing the recommended technology in comparison to local farmer practices. Sowing of crop with unrecommended cultivation practices was the main reason for the yield gap. It wasfound that the yield of mustard could be increased by 10.7–20.7 per cent through improved technological interventions and also technology gap, extension gap and technology index could be reduced 18.13 per cent, 8.26 per cent and 14.19 per cent respectively.
