Abstract

Chhattisgarh has many Self Help Groups (SHGs). In Raipur, 115 male and female SHGs are engaged in fisheries. A study was conducted to explore gender differentials in performance of these SHGs. Performance appraisal of SHGs was done using NABARD checklist with 16 parameters scored on 3 point scale with 3 as very good, 2 as good and 1 as unsatisfactory. Overall performance score of SHGs was good with score 2.17/3. Average performance score for male SHGs it was 2.15 and for female SHGs was 2.21. Mann-Whitney U-test suggested significant difference between male and female SHGs as regards to amount to be saved, utilization of saving amount where females scored better. Thus it could be concluded that gender differentials exist between male and female SHGs. Even with lower education, dual responsibility of households, care of children and elderly, performance score of female SHG was found to be more than male SHG.
