Effectiveness of deendayal antyodaya yojna- national rural livelihoods mission on empowerment of women in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) is one such effort of the government to make women self-reliant by earning their livelihood under Aajeevika mission. The study aims to know about the empowerment of beneficiaries in terms of social, economic and psychological aspect before and after joining SHGs. The major findings of study revealed that 50.00 per cent of the women showed a positive attitudes towards development programs. 48.75 per cent of the women beneficiaries had medium access to the credit. Study also revealed that 55.00 per cent women beneficiaries showed medium level of economic motivation, 50.00 per cent of women beneficiaries showed social participation in the societal platforms, 22.50 per cent of women beneficiaries were labour followed by 21.25 per cent farming, 17.50 per cent small business. In relation to the empowerment, there is 40.00 per cent of social empowerment of the women as compared to 36.20 per cent before joining. Psychologically they were empowered 35.00 per cent, before joining of the DAY-NRLM they were only 32.75 per cent empowered. Economically they showed a rise of25.00 per cent in respect to 19.00 per cent after joining the scheme.
