Extent of knowledge about diversified farming of tribal farmers of Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

In India, majority of population is dependent on agriculture and allied activities including crops, fruits, animal husbandry, fisheries, forestry and agro-processing that provides livelihood to the population. The present study was conducted in the West Nimar (Khargone) district of Madhya Pradesh. The Khargone district comprises of total of nine community development blocks (CDBs). Out of these, only one block i.e. Bhagwanpura was selected purposively from the selected district because this block was having maximum tribal population among all the other blocks in the district. The 100 tribal farmers those were practice or practicing diversified farming were selected by the snow ball random sampling method from the 10 selected village panchyats. The overall knowledge level majority (48.00%) of diversified farming tribal farmers had high followed by medium (31.00%) and low (21.00%), respectively. The value of correlation coefficients of variables i.e., Age, education, type of family, size of family, occupation, annual income, housing pattern, social participation, size of land holding, material possession, source of information utilization pattern, contact with extension personnel, scientific orientation, achievement motivation and risk orientation are found significant positively associated with knowledge level of the tribal farmers who are involved in the diversified farming.
