Utilization and impact of digital extension services: A quick way to deliver agriculture information to the farming community

Abstract

Globally, various digital platforms are efficiently explored to provide information in various sectors. In many developing countries the majority of the main population occupation is agriculture. Traditional extension services are limited by lack of extension personnel, expertise, up-to-date information regarding market access,timeliness, information storage.Therefore digitalization can be critical in overcoming social limitations through the utilization of various information and communication technologies(ICT) tools decision support system, databases agri based applications,kiosk etc. These advanced approaches will not only support the extension and farming communities but also improve their skills and uplift them in contributing to an increased National GDP (Naik etal 2021). Digital tools are fostering a new revolution in agriculture opening new possibilities for how farmers monitor their fields records, information and make decisions. As the world is currently struggling to fight the covid-19 pandemic and former in different countries are facing dual burden i.e. inadequate health services coupled with timely extension services for sustaining their livelihood. For extension workers as well,it is a revolution, sensors, models, applications are new options for them to enrich their toolbox and make their services more appealing. This paper covers What are the opportunities, challenges of digital extension strategy especially under Covid-19 circumstances, various digital tools and their efficiency with utilization and impact of digital extension services on farmers knowledge in terms of agricultural practices in selected villages of Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh India. In conclusion digital extension services play a vital role in the dissemination of updated information for improving agricultural supply chain management.
