Abstract

The Fodder availability plays an important role for sustainable livestock farming, which is a major challenge for the dairy farmers especially during the drought situations and in summer. Hence, the present study was conducted to find out the socio-economic status and to identify problems faced by dairy farmers in adoption of fodder development Scheme. An ex-post-facto research design was followed in investigation. A total of 120 farmers were randomly selected from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh for the study. The majority of the dairy farmers were middle aged, illiterate, belonged to backward caste, having medium family size and nuclear families with livestock farming as main occupation, having medium land holding, herd size, annual income, social participation, innovativeness, mass media exposure, extension contact. The major problems were no timely sanction of incentives (81.16%), sanction of less amount lease amount (71.66%) and incentive for fodder cultivation (70.00%).
