Abstract

The present investigation was carried out to analyze the mode of utilization of cow dung and cow waste products at household and market level of district Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) covering a total of 250 respondents. Cow dung is one of the most important sources of bio-fertilizer and is used for generating soil energy in India. Cow-dung manure and compost increases the organic matter content of the soil which further leads to improved water infiltration and water holding capacity as well as an increased cation exchange capacity (CEC). Apart from various sweets and milk products, other items like dhoop sticks, incense sticks or agarbatties, cow dung diyas, pots, cow dung cake etc. have also taken place in today's market. Pre-tested interview schedule was used for collection of information from rural women. The study revealed that the cow dung products are hundred per cent safe and eco-friendly and moreover, provide an avenue for the rural people to increase their average income. New avenues are a source of employment for the villagers and also an additional income generating activity for the rural women, which they can adopt while being in the confined space of their homes.
