Utilization of mass media tools by post graduate students in Agriculture University

Abstract

This study was carried out during the year 2019–2020 in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut to know utilization pattern of mass media tools by post graduate students. The data was collected from 110 postgraduate students with the help of pre-structured interview schedule. It was found that 80.91 per cent respondents belongs to age group 21–25 years, 71.82 per cent of the respondents were males and 28.18 per cent females, 63.64 per cent respondents were belonging to rural areas and 85.45 per cent belongs to Hinduism religion,91.82 per cent respondents were unmarried and 81.82 per cent were studying in Master's degree program. 100.00 per cent of the respondents were having Smartphone, which they used to access mass media tools. The post-graduate students 96.36 per cent have access and use computer based technology i.e. internet, to connect to social media tools, it was ranked in 1st and 89.09 per cent respondents were using newspaper, ranked in 2°d. The respondents 97.27 per cent were using mass media tools for searching information regarding course of subject and research work and 93.64 per cent students access their mass media tools in the university hostels related to agricultural news. Social media was being used by 87.27 per cent respondents daily. The majority 80.00 per cent of the post-graduate students were spending less than 1 hour time for using newspapers and 44.55 per cent were spending 1–3 hours on utilizing social media.
