Constraint analysis and adoption behavior of sugarcane growers for biotic stress management in Surajpur district, Chhattisgarh

Abstract

The present study was conducted in 15 sugarcane growing villages of Surajpur district and data were collected from 120 respondents through interview scheduled during 2018–19. The result revealed that the Stem borer (95.00%), Pyrilla (97.50%) and termites (94.17%) are the major insects while red rot of sugarcane (93.33%) and whip smut (95.83%) were more prominent problem in the study area. The highest knowledge was about burning of trash in physical method, deep ploughing in cultural and Carbofuran for chemical control. The overall extent of knowledgeand adoption level of respondents towards chemical control had highest level. The lack of subsidy from govt. on IPM control measures, nonavailability of bio-control and Lack of knowledge about effect on crop was the major constraint of sugarcane growers.
