Extent of use and popularity of traditional folk media for agriculture among different ethnic groups of Assam

Abstract

Traditional source of communication became potential tool for conveying messages for economic and social development. Considering the importance, popularity and use of traditional folk media, Dhemaji district of Assam was selected for the purpose of a study based on the cultural diversity of the area. During the study descriptive research design was followed and data were collected with the help of personal interview technique by employing random sampling procedure taking 100 respondents belonging to the ethnic groups of Ahom, Kachari, Mising and Deori. The finding indicate that majority of the respondents used folk songs, folk dances, proverbs, festivals, fair regularly and it was observed popular and suitable. The study supports the assumption that folk media can be effectively used for agricultural communication even in the age of digital era.
