Technological gap in paddy cultivation technologies

Abstract

The present study was conducted to assess the extent of technological gap between recommended and actually adopted cultivation technologies by paddy growers and to find out relationship between selected characteristics of paddy growers and their extent of technological gap. The present study was carried out in purposively selected Nagbhir Panchayat Samiti in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra by using exploratory design of social research. Total 15 villages were selected from the list by using Nth’ method of random selection. From the list of Kharif paddy growers, 10 farmers were randomly selected from each village. Thus, total 150 farmers were selected as respondents for the present study. The study revealed that there exist a high gap in adoption of paddy cultivation technologies related to control measure for paddy diseases, adoption of recommended varieties of university, seed and seed treatment, integrated nutrient management control measure for pest, integrated pest management, nursery management practices, transplanting, and medium level gap in technologies related to water management, preparatory tillage and puddling. Similarly major characteristics of paddy growers i.e. education, land holding, annual income, social participation, socio-economic status, irrigation potential, area under paddy, sources of seed, economic motivation, scientific orientation, knowledge and sources of information were negatively but significantly correlated with the technological gap in paddy cultivation.
