Abstract

Rice is the principal crop of Bihar in terms of area so Rice Bowl district of Bihar was selected purposively. Through random sampling farmers were selected from each of the four selected villages in two blocks constituting a sample of 160 respondents. The study revealed that the most preferred variety of rice was Nata Mahsuri. Apropos rice varietal preference viz., least preferred (0), less preferred (1), preferred (2) and most preferred (3) Quadripartite Polychotomous Logistic Regression was applied having Nagelkerke pseudo-R-Square value of 0.719. One unit increase in average yield will increase the probability to maneuver from least preferred to most preferred variety by 343.70 per cent [odds ratio (OR), 4.437; 95 per cent CI of Estimate (E) = 1.720 to 11.445]. The research concluded that early sowing and high yielding varieties should be promoted in the study local along with that awareness should be given to the large farmers for the improved variety.
