Problems faced by the womens due to the Guru Gobind Singh refinery: A social impact assessment

Abstract

Development implies a paradigm that is about creating an environment in which people can develop to their full potential and lead productive and creative lives. With development, increasing its expanse in the developing world, an abrupt increase in the number of development project has led to a higher incidence of displacement of people, affecting the social milieu in more than one ways. If seen, development projects from the past to the present have been implemented by the government and private companies, the positive and negative influences of them have been studied in society. Guru Gobind Singh Refinery is located at Kanakwal Village, 48 kilometer from Bathinda District. This Study identified the adverse impact of Guru Gobind Singh Refinery, Bathinda on Women's. The main objective of the study was to know the social impact on women's due to this development project. So, that negative impacts can be minimized and positive impacts can be increased. Women's of both the villages Kanakwal and Phullokhari faced several problems than others. The data was collected in secondary ways through questionnaire. The health impacts of the refinery were found to be more pronounced and grave upon the females of the project affected area who reported of an increasing incidence of reproductive disorders, infertility, fetus abnormalities, frequent abortions and repeated miscarriages. Women's were reported that these problems were increased day by day. The refinery has taken no action to alleviate these problems. So, that the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery is very harmful for women's life in Kanakwal and Phullokhari village.
