Effect of probiotics on milk yield and its production economics in crossbred cows

Abstract

The on farm trial was conducted during two consecutive years 2018-19 and 2019-20 at two adopted villages of Deendayal Research Institutes Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ambajogai District Beed (Maharashtra). The trials were conducted for 60 days to study the effect of probiotics on milk yield and its production economics. The trials were laid out in a randomized block design consisting of three treatments with four replications of each. Twelve lactating crossbred cows were selected on the basis of parity, average daily milk yield and stage of lactation. Cows were divided into three groups (four cows in each group). The crossbred cow (T1) were fed with basaldiet, T2 with basal diet plus 10 gm probiotics and T3 with basal diet plus 20 gm probiotics per day. The basal diet comprising ofconcentrate mixture, green maize and sorghum straw.The probiotic was containing four strains consist of bacteria and fungi namely., Lactobacillus acidophilus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saccharomyces boulardii and Propionibacterium frendenreichii along with sea weed powder. It was found that, feeding of 20 gm probioticsproved to be effective in increasing milk production as well as milk fat and SNF content. Therefore, it may be concluded that per day supplementation of 20 gm probiotics with basal diet in crossbred lactating cow is profitable for dairy farming business.
