Abstract

Defence Institute of Bio Energy Research (DIBER), one of the establishments of Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) is located in Uttarakhand state. Since its inception, the institute has carried out commendable work in the field of high attitude agriculture. A project SARHAD was conceived by the institute in 2017 with the objective to disseminate the vegetable production technologies developed by DIBER viz, development of high yielding vegetable varieties/hybrids, vegetable cultivation by adopting green house technology, organic farming, water efficient technologies such as mulching, drip irrigation to the farmers of villages of Pithoragarh, Border district of Uttarakhand. The main purpose of the dissemination of vegetable production technologies is to enhance the livelihood security of farmers of hill region.
