Abstract

In the field of animal husbandry, India has a lot of promise. The progress of the livestock sector is commonly referred to as ‘pro-poor.’ Use of recommended dairy practices, as well as a holistic strategy to gather empirical data on various constraints linked with the adoption of recommended dairy practices, can improve productivity. Adoption of any recommended dairy practises entails a process of raising awareness, changing attitudes, and creating ideal conditions for adoption. The current study was conducted in the Madhya Pradesh state's Jabalpur district to look into the barriers that dairy farmers have in implementing suggested dairy practises, as well as ideas for overcoming them. Here major Constraints faced by dairy farmers were non-remunerative price for milk with mean score of 0.85 followed by high cost of cross breed cattle with mean score of 0.75, difficult to store milk in summer with mean score of 0.71, unavailability of fodder throughout the year with mean score of 0.57, inadequate finance by bank for purchasing milch animals with mean score of 0.65, high cost of concentrate with mean score of 0.57, distant location of A.I. centers with mean score of 0.53 and susceptibility of animals to diseases with mean score of 0.50 respectively. While major suggestions offered by dairy farmers were as: the rate of raw material/feed and milk prices should be increased proportionately (96.00%) followed by loan sanction procedure should be easy (75.00%), cost of veterinary services should be reduced (72.95%), the loan amount for purchasing dairy animals should be increased (70.00%), concentrates should be offered at a lower cost (64.28%) and subsidies on certain inputs such as veterinary medication, feed, and fodder seeds should be provided. (57.14%), marketing facilities is provided at village level and milk more collection centers should be established (48.58%) and facility of timely insemination of animal should be provided by veterinary department (46.42%) respectively.
