Abstract

The study was conducted among kinnow growers of sub-mountainous zone of Punjab to ascertain the economic benefits in high density planting over the conventional planting of Kinnow. It was observed that the majority (57.5%) of respondents belonged to the age group 42-59 years. About one third (32.5%) of the respondents had education up to graduation and 37.5 percent of the respondents had semi-medium operational landholding. About 44 per cent of the respondents had 10-19 years of experience in kinnow cultivation. Conventional planting kinnow growers fetched more prices than high density plantation kinnow growers due to better fruit quality. The average cost of plantation per acre for one year for leased out orchard and self-marketing kinnow growers was found to be greater in high density. The net income from the leased out orchard was found to be 52,763/- and 44, 505/- per acre for high density planting and conventional planting, respectively.
