Abstract

Location management in cellular networks has been important issue for research since few years. The current static method of determining location or paging areas is suboptimal and costly for operators. Therefore, much research has been focused on dynamic schemes, which show good amount of cost optimization.

In this paper, Cartesian Coordinate System based Dynamic Location Management Scheme is proposed. The scheme delegates the responsibility of performing individual updates to the Mobile Terminal (MT). It makes it easy to deploy in current cellular infrastructure. Also, the proposed scheme does not require vast changes to the existing cellular network infrastructure. The proposed method can cut the cost of location management significantly.
