Power line technology exploits unused bandwidth of the electrical wiring in the home. Powerline has traditionally been viewed as a medium for low-speed control applications. Its noisy channel conditions prevented it from growing as a promising technology. However, in the recent years, newer modulation techniques like Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) [1,8] gave a fillip to power line networking. Data loss can be made negligible even with higher noisy conditions. As the technology improved, it is now possible to have a maximum data rate of 200 Mbps over the power line.
The Multimedia Receiver is a device that can be directly plugged to powerline network. It is an Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) [2 7] enabled system, compatible with the Home Plug standard [3] that offers a data rate up to a maximum of 85 Mbps. The system can be connected to a powerline network for streaming media files to an ordinary TV. In order to develop a home networking over power line, we need PowerLine Carrier Communication (PLCC) that is typically done by PLCC modem [4].
