This paper presents an optimal solution for the determination of aerodynamic performance characteristics of horizontal axis wind turbines. Based on the different analytical methods examined in the calculation of axial and tangential induction factors (a & aá), the variation in Co-efficient of performance (Cp) possibly is noted. The paper includes the case study which involves the prediction through BEM (Blade Element Momentum method) and comparison of various design parameters including Angle of Attack (AOA), Twist angle (θ), influencing the overall performance. Results for a typical airfoil cross-section show that the optimum angle of attack and optimum twist angle of the blade improves the performance of the wind turbine. A coding technique has been suggested which demonstrates the work done in the evaluation of optimum performance of HAWT on the basis of literature.
