Abstract

This paper proposes performance evaluation of the core processors viz., intra prediction, integer transform, quantization, inverse quantization, inverse transformation and variable length coding for H.264 Advanced Video Encoder using Matlab. It is capable of processing video frames with the desired compression controlled by the user input. The user can input different quantization parameters depending on the step sizes. The performance of the video encoder in terms of peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) as well compression with different step sizes is found out. The complete H.264 Advanced Video Codec is coded in Matlab and the quality is measured in terms of PSNR and compression. The reconstructed picture quality is better than 35 dB.
