Abstract

This paper provides detailed information about retail sector in India & foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail in the Indian market. Foreign direct investment (FDI) plays an important role in the Indian economy. The Indian retail industry is the industry of opportunities & developments. According to the investment commission of India (ICI), the Indian retail sector will increase up to $660 billion in 2015. This paper attempts to present the progress of the retail sector in India and opportunities for retail stores in Indian market. It also tries to highlight the recent trend of the foreign direct investment in Indian economy and the effect of the foreign direct investment on organized and unorganized Indian retail sector. At last it includes the perception of small retailers about foreign direct investment in retail. The paper focuses on the following aspects:
