Abstract

With increased Demand of electricity and environmental pressures to reduce the co2 emissions as well as to increase the efficiency of modern power generating stations, the limiting problem is basically the material used to manufacture the critical components like boiler tubes. As the boiler tubes are subjected to extensively high pressures and elevated temperatures, and the life of boiler tube affects the power generation efficiency and availability of station for uninterrupted generation. In rapid response to these problems we need to either identify some new materials for tubes or some life enhancement strategy or methodology, which could be applied on those critical parts.

Nano technology offers an enormous chance to improve the materials or to adopt or identify a life enhancement strategy of boiler tubes, to the modern engineers. Carbon nano tubes (CNTS) exhibits some outstanding performance as their Thermal, electrical and mechanical properties.

In this paper we have tried to present a brief on properties of CNT composites, their synthesis processes and application as coatings on boiler tubes. It is also found that a nano structured coating has been developed and can be applied to enhance the corrosion performance of boiler tubes.
