Condition monitoring of power transmission shafts have been one of the challenging jobs for mechanical engineers. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of different defects in shaft on the vibration behavior i.e., frequency which is used to diagnose the faults of shaft with online monitoring. The experiments were conducted for different phases such as no defect, shaft size, smaller possible fault and fault at both ends of the shaft. The experimental results demonstrated that faults in shaft may be detected by monitoring spectrum signature. The developed method offers a cost effective solution for condition monitoring problems. The results obtained a harmonic component in the shaft spectrum which can be detected.
