Abstract

The environmental performance of products and processes has become a key issue. Many construction companies have found it advantageous to explore ways of moving beyond compliance using pollution prevention strategies and environmental management systems to improve their environmental performance. One such tool is LCA. Although LCA has been widely used in the building sector since 1990, and is an important tool for assessing buildings, it is less developed than in other industries, including perhaps the engineering and infrastructure sector. The concept of LCA considers the entire life cycle of a product. Applying LCA in the building sector has become a distinct working area within LCA practice. LCA practice in the building industry has taken place at a national level, but in general much scope remains for wider involvement and cooperation. This research aims to bridge this gap by assessing the life cycle impacts of the building. The purpose of this study was to develop the model to estimate the CO2-emissions of building according to Indian condition.
