Since the Industrial revolution began about 150 years ago, its negative impact is that it added significant quantities of green house gases to the atmosphere, the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have grown by about 32%, 50% and 16.6% respectively between 1750 to 2000 (IPCC, 2001). Green House Gases have an impact on the world climate change. The challenge how to respond to climate change and ensure sustainable development are currently high on the political agenda among the world leading nation, the climate development mechanism (CDM) is part of the global market developing rapidly as part of the Kyoto protocol towards mitigation of global warming. One of the aim of the CDM is to achieve sustainable development in developing countries, the review of literature serve to assess to state of knowledge on how the CDM contributes to sustainable development including poverty alleviation, in this review the main finding is that to market forces, the CDM does not significantly contribute to sustainable development.
