Due to industrial importance of gears in power transmission systems, fault detection and diagnosis of gear transmission systems have attracted considerable attention in recent years, there is constant pressure to improve measuring techniques and tools for early detection and diagnosis of gearbox faults. The time and frequency localization properties of continuous wavelet transform offers a viable and improved option for analyzing the transient characteristics of defect signals. This paper presents comparison between conventional technique and Morlet Wavelet Transform. A fault diagnosis set up is used to acquire signals from healthy as well faulty condition. The vibration signals are acquired from gearbox test rig with the help of FFT analyzer under healthy and seeded faulty gear conditions. Finally, based on the results and discussion a roadmap for development of CWT based diagnostic application is presented
