Wireless sensor network has a wide area of application and in future their usage is much more. The main problem in wireless sensor network is its life time. To solve this problem we introduced soft and hard thresholding to LEACH that increases the performance even more. By using soft thresholding (ST) and hard thresholding (HT) in reactive heterogeneous network which consists of normal and advanced nodes which saves the energy of the node during data transmission. Heterogeneous network increases the lifetime by electing advanced node as cluster head (CH) and the thresholding has been used for the data transmission in the proposed protocol. Finally a brief performance analysis of leach, modified leach with soft thresholding (ST) and hard thresholding (HT) is undertaken considering metrics of throughput, network lifetime, dead node, alive nodes, packets to Base Station (BS) and cluster head (CH). Simulation has been done in MATLAB and simulation results shown that soft thresholding (ST) and hard thresholding (HT) are more efficient than LEACH protocol.
