Abstract

Bluegreen algae or cyanobacteria are the prokaryotic organism with photosynthetic activity. Therefore they consider as a link between bacteria and higher plants. The occurrence of BGA in a wide range of habited from fresh water ecosystem to marine water ecosystem & form rock to paddy field. They posses several importance to our mankind, like they can use as biofertilizer due to its nitrogen fixation capacity, they can used in industrial bioremediation programs., they also use in medicine & bio fuel sector. For cultureing BGA we have proposed a semi biological media AS4 which contain coconut(Cocos nucifera L.) water. As coconut water consist of protein, carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals, amino acid & phytohormones, it provide great composition for media formulation. The AS4 medium shows better growth respond on the organisms. The making cost of the media is low because most of the micronutrient like Calcium Ca, Iron Fe, Magnesium Mg, Phosphorus P, Potassium K, Sodium Na, Zinc Zn, Copper Cu, Manganese Mn, Selenium Se, Chlorine Cl, Sulfur S, AluminiumAl, Boron B supplied by the coconut water. Phytohormone & vitamin may have a role in growth of BGA it need further studies. Due to its low cost and high efficiency in culturing BGA it is may be useful in developing country for mass culture of cyanobacteria.
