A Study on Attitude of Female Students on Legalization of Abortion in Jimma University College of Natural Science

Abstract

Abortion is one of the major health problems in our country and the issue of abortion is twisted with a host of political, religious and moral concerns. But regardless the constraints produced by the environment in which they live, a number of women seek induced abortion. The aim of this study is to identify the factor that affect women attitude on legalization of abortion in Jimma University College of natural science in case of 3rd year female students. Thus, the target population of this study is all 3rd year college of natural science female students in the Jimma University. The total number of female students considered for these studies were 127 from those 72 students was taken as a representative of the total population by using stratified random sampling technique. The analysis were done through descriptive statistics include frequency table and bar charts and from inferential statistics Chi-square test of independence and Logistic regression model, which is used to determine the factor that affect women attitude on legalization of abortion. From the descriptive statistics the researcher observed that most of the students don't have a good attitude towards legal abortion. Based on the result of output knowledge of respondents, unwanted pregnancy, religion and use of contraceptive method are the most effective variable to affect the attitude of women on legalization of abortion. Consequently, the researcher recommends that the concerned body should have to consider these problems and try to find the immediate solution for women to get safer abortion services when necessary by skilled practitioner in health institutions with good hygiene.
