This paper present a comparative study of existing real-time MAC layer protocol for wireless sensor networks. Then, a new real-Time MAC protocol is presented that is based on a general purpose MAC protocol, called B-MAC. While medium access strategy in B-MAC is based on contention and back-off schemes protocol proposed in this paper uses feedback approach as a medium access strategy. As a result of this, we use smaller contention window sizes for nodes with successful packet transmissions and reduce the back-off timers exponentially fast when a fixed number of consecutive idle slots are detected. Proposed protocol works in continuous OFF mode of operation at MAC layer using CSMA Protocol. Finally, a comparative performance analysis of proposed real-time protocol using CSMA is done with other TDMA based real time MAC Protocols for wireless sensor network.
