Abstract

In this study, production of hydrogen by coal(wood char and Adıyaman-Gölbaşi lignite)-steam gasification was investigated. Some operational conditions of the experiments have been determined during the study. Three series of kinetic measurements related to this process were carried out. By beneficial of these measurements, reaction rates, rate constants, activation energy of the process and obtained hydrogen from each experiment and composition of other gases have been determined.

In conducted experimental studies, initial test studies and some kinetic measurements had been carried out. In this process, for analyzed gas mixture (H2, CO, CO2 and CH4), a calibration method had been developed. At different steam flowrates and different temperatures with various catalysts(Na2CO3, K2CO3 and Li2CO3), produced hydrogen and percentage compositions of other gases had been determined by a Midi GC. In the starting stage of experimental programme, some revision studies of the experimental system have been carried out. The most importants from these revision studies were replacement of a steam line, reconstruction of condenser and gas-liquid separator, and for purpose of preventing pressure fluctuations at the exit, the valve system and related connectors have been changed. In the later stage of this study with produced and measurable steam flowrates some kinetic measurements had been continued also at different experimental conditions in the frame of performed experimental programme. By making an experimental computation of obtained data, some important kinetic data related to this process have been obtained.
