Landfill site is the site for the disposal of waste materials or landfill may also refer to ground that has been filled in with waste materials. It usually contains both dissolved and suspended material. With the growing population waste generation capacity of population also increases which requires proper disposal for the safety of environment.
The main cause for the increase in the population is due to the rapid urbanization. This emphasizes the need for constructing landfill. Various factors are studied which affect landfill construction like type of surface soil, ph of soil, depth and location of groundwater table. Effect of landfill on the groundwater contamination is also important factor which is studied so that construction of landfill is done on site where no contamination of groundwater takes place. As if groundwater gets contaminated, it will leads to health and environmental related problems. Using remote sensing and GIS, data of the study area is digitized and geo-referenced and best site for landfill construction is located combining all the parameters.
