Abstract

Sustainable construction is in major need in construction industry. It plays a major role in benefiting the society socially and environmentally. Energy saving and safety have obtained a worldwide attention. This led to the development of many new eco-friendly concrete types with self-sensing properties. Though major advantages are provided but still it involves higher costs and skilled supervision. The preparation of the new concrete types involves the same ingredients as the conventional concrete but with addition of different admixtures. Transparent concrete is made with addition of plastic or glass optical fibers or resins. Pervious concrete is a mixture of cement, coarse aggregate and fine or no fine aggregate (sand) with cementatious paste to coat the voids. Self-healing concrete mainly helps in preventing crack formation whereas conductive concrete to de-ice the snow and waterproof to avoid moisture in the concrete.
