The present aim of this experimental study is to investigate the application of different blends of ethanol and diesel to analyze its performance parameters and emission characteristics on a high speed single cylinder four stroke kirloskar AV1 Diesel engine and compared with neat diesel at various loads at a constant speed of 1500 rpm. The experiment was conducted with three different types of blends which are namely E10(ethanol 10%, diesel 90%), E20(ethanol 20%, diesel 80%) and E30(ethanol 30%, diesel 70%) with an additive n-butanol to prevent the phase separation with diesel. The performance parameters like specific fuel consumption(SFC), brake thermal efficiency(BTE) and emission characteristics like CO, HC, CO2 and NOX were found for all the test samples and compared with diesel. From this study it is found that the efficiency was slightly increasedand the exhaust emissions were reduced with the blends of ethanol at particular loads when compared with diesel. From the experiment the results were showed that the diesel and ethanol blends are acceptable and suitable alternative fuel for a diesel engine without any modifications.
