Education for Peace: Bringing About Gender Positive Initiatives

Violence within an individual creates a violent society. The misinterpretation and misuse of power leads to the global issues of violence, divisive tendencies, inequality and environmental degradation. This shows that one's outlook on life is not right, and there is a need to change the mindset of both men and women in order to foster a harmonious society. This is where “education for peace” becomes instrumental. It is important to sensitize and empower the individual – from the very roots of the educational process - so that he or she may in turn work to bring about positive initiatives in the organization that he or she is a part of. These positive initiatives and their ramifications have been discussed in this paper. We should accept it as a challenge and initiate the beginnings of a positive change in attitudes and behaviour wherever we are.
