The Peace Gong looks at the canvas of nonviolent communication as an intersection of eternal values like mutual respect, mutual understanding, appreciation, compassion, kindness, gratitude, altruism and empathy. It feels that when citizens start practicing these values and make conscious attempts to indulge in positive dialogues in emotionally intelligent ways with others, they can contribute to social cohesion and solidarity for mutual coexistence, besides getting over negative emotions. As we live in a world having conflicts of different kinds, right from individual to the societal level, nurturing nonviolent communication can be a powerful way to contribute towards peaceful coexistence and enhanced solidarity amongst the citizenry. This article, by examining different pillars of nonviolent communication will try to explore on how it can be introduced amongst different sections of the Gambian society. It will look at the role of different institutions in promoting nonviolent communication and how it can be integrated in the functioning of our pillars of democracy.
