Surveillance networks have increased in popularity the last decades as safety and security have become critical issues in many infrastructures such as power stations, airports, hospitals, and schools. They are to provide protection from a wide range of threats or attacks and serve as a deterrent to crime. This paper provides a brief introduction to surveillance networks, their applications, and challenges.
