Abstract

Water quality has become a major concern due to ever increasing human developmental activities that over exploit and pollute the water resources. A Study on Physicochemical and biological characters of River water and its suitability for drinking and irrigation purposes was carried out in Vaigai River of Tamil Nadu. Representative of three samples were collected from Kunnur (Theni Dt), Vaigai dam and Annai patty. The samples were analyzed for various water quality parameters such as Ca, Fe, Na, Cl, K, SO4 and PO4 following the guidelines of WHO and ISI. From the study, it is inferred that the river water is generally potable.
